Webinar| “Persecution and Assassination of Human Rights Defenders in Southern Africa: “A TIME TO REFLECT ON THULANI MASEKO’S LEGACY”
MozambiqueDefenders and SouthernDefenders welcome you to the webinar entitled “Persecution and Assassination of Human Rights Defenders in Southern Africa: A TIME TO REFLECT ON THULANI MASEKO’S LEGACY”, to be held today, 23 January 2023, 16h00 – 17h:30.
This event aims to promote a discussion on the risks associated with the work of Human Rights Defenders in Southern Africa and to reflect on the legacy of Thulani Maseko.
Thulani Maseko was a well-known human rights lawyer who was gunned down at point-blank range, in front of his wife and children at his home in Mbabane, Eswatini, on the evening of January 21, 2023.
This atrocious, cowardly and cold-blooded act came a few hours after King Mswati had issued ‘stern warnings’ to those calling for democratic reforms in the country, and that his hired mercenaries would deal with them.
